September 11th Updates
Updates
UPDATE – 3:07 PM, Thursday, February 12, 2004
As you may know, over the next few months, many 9-11 programs will be closing
down, but the 9-11 Mental Health and Substance Abuse program (1-800-LIFENET) is
still open for family members and anyone else who was affected by the events of
Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
From the American Red Cross' experience with the Oklahoma City trauma, the year
between the second and third anniversary of the disaster is the hardest for
those affected. There appears to be an increased amount of alcoholism, drug
abuse, divorce and depression during that time period.
The American Red Cross, The September 11th Fund, and the Mental Health
Association of New York City sponsor the 9-11 Mental Health and Substance Abuse
program.
Dial the free hotline 1-800-LIFENET(543-3638) for CONFIDENTIAL help now.

UPDATE – 9:45 AM, Thursday, January 22, 2004
Memorial Fundraiser sponsored by September’s Mission.
Monica Iken, Founder of September’s Mission is pleased to announce the launch
of a major fundraising effort for the future memorial at the World Trade Center
site. It is being called the 9/11 Campaign and is spearheaded by September’s
Mission (this fund is entirely separate and segregated from September's
Mission's operations account). Interest earned will be used to provide stabile
annual funding for the memorial and its programs.
The 9/11 Campaign is a family driven initiative and is the first fundraising
plan in connection with the memorial. It will support cultural and educational
programming for the memorial.
The goal in Phase One of this campaign is relatively modest for a project of
this magnitude; September’s Mission would like to raise nine million, one
hundred ten thousand dollars by September 11, 2004 to support the permanent
endowment fund.
Reaching this goal will allow modest programs to take place before the memorial
is actually built. The long-term goal is to eventually rise over one hundred
million dollars to support a dynamic range of programs. September’s Mission
will work to make programming excellence a priority.
Examples of the programs include those that help children understand the events
of September 11th - international conferences that promote world peace and
tolerance - and programs that will help put a face, a story and context behind
the lives all of the people who were senselessly murdered on 9/11.
